| On the warm calm days that we often enjoy, it is fun to cruise the beach, in water 6-20', looking for the shadowy figures of cobia. Singles are common, but sometimes a group of 3 to 10 or more will appear. I pilot the SNOOKUMS from the tower with a baited rod in hand, ready to cast a morsel to a hopefully hungry cobia. The legal minimum is 33" to the fork of the tail, but this is not usually too much of a problem. Hooking up with a 30-50 pound fish, I pass the rod down to Tony who immediately turns it over to one of the charter clients on board. This is often the biggest fish that person has ever caught, so the experience sometimes ends with the cobia taking bait and tackle; leaving the client gape jawed. |
